Appointments, stays and runs, explained
How visits, multi-day boarding stays and named facility runs differ, and when to use each.
Pupline schedules work in three shapes: appointments for single visits, stays for multi-day boarding, and runs for the named spaces in your facility. Knowing which is which keeps your calendar honest and your capacity counts right. Here is what each one means and exactly when to reach for it.
In a nutshell
- An appointment is a single visit at a point in time — a 9am walk, a grooming slot.
- A stay is a multi-day booking with a check-in and a check-out; it holds space every night in between.
- A run is a named, bookable space (a kennel, a daycare room) with its own capacity and price.
- Confirmed stays live on the facility board, not your appointments list, so a booking never appears twice.
Appointments
An appointment is a single visit at a point in time — a 9am dog walk, a midday drop-in, a grooming slot. Appointments show on your calendar, have a length, and can be assigned to a specific team member so it lands on their schedule.
Stays
A stay is a multi-day booking, like a dog boarding from Friday to Sunday. A stay has a check-in and a check-out, and it occupies space for every night in between, so Pupline counts your capacity correctly across the whole range — including the turnover day, when one guest leaves in the morning and the space frees up for the next that afternoon.
Confirmed multi-day stays show on the facility board, not duplicated in your appointments list, so the same booking never appears twice.
Runs
A run is a named, bookable space in your facility — a specific kennel, a boarding suite, or a daycare room. Each run has its own capacity, and you can offer it for booking with its own price, so clients can request a particular space and see how many places are left.
Which one do I use?
| Appointment | Stay | Run | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it is | A single visit | A multi-day booking | A named space |
| Measured in | Minutes / hours | Nights | Places per night |
| Counts toward capacity | — | Every night | Its own |
| Best for | Walks, grooms, drop-ins | Overnight boarding | Daycare rooms, kennels |
- 1Check pets in as they arrive and out as they leave — an accidental tap can be undone.
- 2Anything still needing a space shows in To assign, so nothing slips through on a busy morning.
Common questions
Can one client have both an appointment and a stay?
Yes. A client can have a one-off walk on the calendar and a multi-day boarding stay on the facility board at the same time — they are just different shapes of booking on the same client record.
Does a stay show on my calendar?
A confirmed multi-day stay lives on the facility board rather than being duplicated in your appointments list, so you never see the same booking twice. Single-day visits show on the calendar.
Can clients book a specific run themselves?
Yes, if you mark the run as bookable and give it a price. It then appears on your booking page with a live count of how many places are left — see Set up your public booking page.
